An American Hospital Will Admit Arina Abdrafikova in July
On June 18th here on this site, we told the story of Arina Abdrafikova, a six-month-old girl from Bashkiria. Arina has a malignant tumor in both eyes – retinoblastoma. She needs to undergo medical treatment at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (New York). The cost of the treatment is $157,299. The Abdrafikov family will also need an additional $2,730 in support during their stay in the US. But the Abdrafikov family doesn’t have anywhere near this amount of money. Parents and volunteers raised $72,554. The Russian Aid Foundation raised $84,745 more. Individual donors from the US, Germany, Israel, Ireland, Canada and other countries have contributed to cover Arina and her father’s accommodations, local transportation, food and other associated expenses in America. Arina will be admitted to the hospital in July. Arina’s family thanks everyone who has helped. Dear friends, please accept our gratitude as well.
There’s a chance
The chemotherapy in the US can save Arina Abdrafikova
Arina Abdrafikova, six months old, has a malignant tumor in both eyes – retinoblastoma, requiring treatment at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (New York). $2,730.
Arina is our only and long-awaited daughter! We wanted to see her grow up, go to preschool and then to school. But joyful expectations turned into a fear for her life. We noticed a strange glow in our little peanut’s eyes. At first, the doctors didn’t find anything wrong. It was only in late January that she was examined and given a frightening diagnosis: a malignant tumor of the right eye. And then four more places from which cancer could spread were found in the left eye. We were immediately offered the option of removing Arina’s right eye but we decided to do everything possible to save our daughter and went to Germany. At first, the doctors there also talked about surgery, but then decided that there’s still a chance to save her eye. After our baby successfully withstood two courses of chemotherapy, we came to the United States, to the very clinic that is considered a leader in the treatment of retinoblastoma. Having examined our Arisha, professor said that thanks to the intra-arterial chemotherapy there is a good chance of not just saving her eye, but also her vision. Volunteers and friends helped raise money for the diagnostic testing and the first round of chemotherapy, but three more rounds of chemotherapy are required. We are asking for your help in paying for them, we ourselves cannot do it! Lenar Abdrafikov, Bashkiria.
$2,730 is needed to save six-month-old Arina Abdrafikova.
David H. Abramson, Chief, Ophthalmic Oncology Service, Department of Surgery, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (New York): "The girl has retinoblastoma in both eyes. We will administer four rounds of intra-arterial chemotherapy. This treatment has a high chance of saving her right eye and vision".
