New step

Mark Uzbekov needs medical treatment at the University of Michigan Hospital

Mark has had problems with his vision since birth. But he wasn’t diagnosed right away. Initially doctors suspected cataracts - a clouding of the eye's lens. Then they thought it could be a malignant disease – retinoblastoma. They said he needs to have both eyes removed. We were in despair. Later they determined that our son has uveitis – a congenital inflammation of the eye’s choroid layer of unknown origin. As a result of the disease his retina detached, his vision was almost completely gone. We contacted the University of Michigan Hospital, and to our great joy, the doctors there agreed to help. We had to hurry, because the optic nerve could atrophy. If that happened, there would be no hope that Mark would be able to see. My wife and son immediately flew to the United States. The doctors performed complex surgery on both of Mark’s retinas. The result is simply amazing: our son already reacts to light. Now they need to complete the next phase of treatment, which will be a new step towards the restoration of sight. Please help me pay for the operation! We have two small children, only I work. Eric Uzbekov, the Republic of Bashkortostan.

To save 10-months-old Mark $25,702 is needed.

Dr. Cagri Besirli, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at Michigan State University (Ann Arbor, USA): "We will see Mark in July to re-examine him under anesthesia and to perform a vitrectomy (surgery to remove scar tissue) in both eyes. The purpose of the operation is the restoration of the anatomy of the retina, the preservation and improvement of vision, as well as preparation for further eye treatment in the future."

Dear friends! If you decide to help Mark, then please do not let the cost stop you. Your donation in any amount will be gratefully accepted. You can contribute to Rusfond USA using PayPal or by sending a check made payable to Rusfond USA and mailing it to Rusfond USA, 420 Lexington Avenue, Suite 300, New York, NY 10170. Thank you!
